Case Study Arena Point, Leeds
Project Overview
A first in Europe ‘Apollo Triple Stack Mastclimber’
Apollo Cradles were commissioned to provide external access by use of mast climbers to Europe highest student accommodation block, Leeds. The building is 140m high, 45 floors.
Apollo supplied double stacked mast climbers to the main façade, the challenge being closing the last part of the façade as the Construction hoist was removed within a limited program time.
Collaborative Planning
In partnership with Metclad Contracts, Apollo co-developed a tailored execution programme to install Europe’s first Triple stack mast climber that would:
- Reduce Time critical program by installing a Triple stack mast climber
- Minimise structural ties to the building.
- Triple stacking mast climber to increase productivity
- This seamless coordination reflected Apollo’s ethical & problem-solving leadership and low-impact delivery ethos to achieve the high standard the client required on this project.
Engineering Innovation
Being a first in Europe a vast engineering solution was sought.
An engineering design concept and prototype was developed, following with an independent engineering design check of all aspects of the installation temporary works & machine parameters.
As a result, Apollo were able to offer a Europe’s first bespoke mast climber solution for the hoist infill elevation.
The alternative was to use a double stack mast climber which would have been detrimental to the project in terms of
- Cost
- Install & removal times
- Project programme
- Project completion
- Façade install productivity
