Warrington Stack
Client: JBV Demolition
Location: Warrington
Project Start: 2020 – 2021
Project Overview
Apollo Cradles were commissioned to provide external access by use of mast climbers to support the removal of a 60m stack. The mast climbers were used to assist in the demolition of the stack by use of a Brock type pecking machine.
Collaborative Planning
In partnership with JBV, Apollo co-developed a tailored execution programme to install mast climbers that would:
- Reduce programme time with larger platforms
- Minimise structural ties to the building
- Increase productivity with a substantial mast climber safe working load
- Minimise risk by use of a fully wrapped continuous platform
This seamless coordination reflected Apollo’s ethical & problem-solving leadership and low-impact delivery ethos to achieve the high standard the client required on this project.
Engineering Innovation
With the nature of the existing operating plant in close proximity it was essential develop a bespoke mast climber solution to demolish to stack in a ‘piece meal’ fashion. Apollo also developed, designed and installed a tie structure to the stack.
A Category 3 temporary works checks was undertaken with full engineering calculations for all elements of the installation.
The alternative was to use a mixture traditional scaffold and boom type powered access which would have been detrimental to the project in terms of
- Cost
- Install & removal times / project programme
- Platform size
- Need for a construction hoist
- Potential hazards of falling debris
Outcomes
- 📅 On-schedule delivery with zero operational disruptions.
- 🔍 Full compliance with LOLER 9.2(B) and thorough examination standards.
- 👍 Client recognition for professionalism and adaptability.
- 🛡️ Continuous safety assurance across every work phase.
